John P Hurst's Ramblings and Interesting Ideas
- Chromebook: I am now using
a ChromeBook
as my personal computer. My ChromeBook
experience is documented. I see no reason to ever buy a laptop again.
- Mail Validity/Spam:
There is a lot of confusion as to how to detect whether eMail messages
are spoofed and spam. The SPF and DKIM systems generally allow for forged
and spam messages to be detected. I have documented an
explanation of
DKIM and SPF
features for those that may be interested.
All mai from me is protected by SPF and DKIM.
- Encrypted and signed eMail: the Public Key Infrastructure, PKI,
may be used to protect eMail messges from other than their intended recipient
and to ensure that messages are from the claimed sender. Open PGP and GPG
are compatible, open and free systems that allow this at mo cost for any user.
I make extensive use of GPG (Gnu Privacy Guard) whic generates and checks
messages in a manner 100% compatible with PGP.
An Intrdoduction to GPG serves as a beginner's guide
and also contains information allowing almost anyone to start using these
systems immediately.
